I happened to stumble upon a straight cut shift dress going for SGD$59 in Singapore (and RM$139 in Malaysia) and thought to myself, hey! isn't this the exact same pattern that I had attempted to sew just a few nights ago?

So on Friday night, I made a trip to Mustafa and got myself some fabric that was on sale to try my hands on sewing a basic shift dress once again.
The fabric cost me S$8/2m and I needed just a little more than 2m.
I spent some time scrutinizing the inside of the various dresses when I went shopping. I just had to check out how the professionals sew the inside so neatly to prevent fraying!
And I decided that the best way to do so is to sewing a piece of lining onto the inside of the dress so that the hems and the seams are all neatly tucked inside and nothing shows!
See what I mean? =) No need for bias tapes or "folding 1/2in then 1/2in" again for stitching. It might seem more tedious to cut 4 pieces of fabric for sewing (instead of the usual 2) but the result I guarantee you is 2 million times much better!
So here's the final product. I really love this material. It's used to make shirts for men apparently but hey, as long as it's a nice piece of fabric, it can be used for any purposes!
My sis-in-law says she will wear this to work today but alas, she is on medical leave. There's always tomorrow!
And we will be shopping together for fabrics to make more of this dresses until I master it completely!
Really excited!
