Handmade coasters

While I'm working on my March's project, I decided to handsew some coasters. :)

I used scraps and so this almost cost me nothing except 30mins of my life :)

Slip on dress

February's creation

No zipper. No elastic band. No lining.

2 new techniques:
1) cap sleeves
2) bias tape

Very pleased with the outcome! :)

Diaper Pouch

I made a diaper pouch in under 2 hours for my sister-in-law who's popping soon!

I can't wait to see my baby nephew!

My favourite so far becoz all the seams are hidden. No ugly seams! I feel so professional already! Haha!!

For the Lunar New Year

Unveiling the dress I'm gonna wear for Lunar New Year this year :)

Extremely pleased with how it turned out.

I need to learn how to sew straight and how to attach the zip prettily!

:)

Other than that, I think I've made remarkable improvement! Yes, self praise is no praise. What the heck. Haha!

Sweet heart CNY dress

My first completed project for 2013.

Actually it was a modified version of a dress I made last year.

http://www.sharon-sews.blogspot.sg/2012/07/test-fabric.html?m=1

I added the blue strip to give it some dimension and the bows were handmade and sewn on to hide some imperfections. I'm glad it turned out pretty.

Sweet Lil' Card-Holder

I have been busy trying to put together a dress I could wear on my wedding.

But really... I doubt I would. I am already in a good mind to shop for one.

Haha... my workmanship sucks and the design doesnt look high fashion at all. But since I already started on the dress (the fabric cost me a bomb by the way), I thought I would follow through it anyway.

So... what else have I been busy with?

I made this over the weekend in under an hour when I realised my coach wallet is bursting with cards.

I rummaged through all my scraps and tried to find something that was nice, sweet and presentable.

So ta-da!!

Here is the final product!

This really reminds me of art-and-craft.

Haha... I had fun and this definitely is unique and one-of-a-kind. Cost me almost nothing (as I mentioned, I used scrap pieces of cloths!).

Wedding Evening Gown V: Magic Boobs

Haha... I bought bra cups from gmarket because I found the ones from Spotlight really insanely expensive and boring looking.

http://list.qoo10.sg/item/NEW-G-CUP-OF-BRA-BIKINI-PADDING/400967244

I bought both the gel and the sponge cups. Personally, the gel one looks more normal. But for the evening gown, I thought the sponge cups fit better!

Doesn't my boobs look humongous!? Hahaha...

I thought the cups will salvage the poorly constructed left bodic... but alas, it didn't. Should I bring this along for the photoshoot this weekend? I really dont know.

Oh well.

Wedding Evening Gown Part IV: Disappointed

I have completed the evening gown.

Somehow, it just doesnt wow me. I was my first time working with a stretchy fabric with sequins that kinda affected the way the fabric should fold. I didnt know it was stretchy when I bought it. Sigh.

And somehow, the skirt looks poofy. I dont really mind it actually. I find it hard to iron the seams down and I wish I didnt sew the darts on. I am wondering If it can be salvaged. What happens if I were to remove the darts now?

I am wondering if I should re-do this.

For a novice with absolutely no formal training and 4 months of self-taught skills, I think I did a great job. But to wear this to my own wedding.... I am having second thoughts.

OPS!

Farewell Gift: Shoulder Bag

I made this for a colleague who is leaving us today. Last day.

Hope she likes it! It turned out really pretty except the handles. If you noticed, one handle is twisted >.<

Wedding Evening Gown Part III: Test Fabric

I did this all by myself!!!

Can't wait to work on my wedding dress now!

Awesome-ness!

New Purple Fern Blouse

I made this in under 2 hours last night coz there was nothing much to do. So I put together this blouse with scraps from another project.

And I am wearing it to work now. Yes I know. I am so dirty. Didnt bother to wash it first =P

Here's the actual colour.

I am really not sure why the colour of this photo turned out grainy. And I tried to salvage it by using the iphone app to add layers of filters. Haha... Ok... nice try.

Wedding Evening Gown Part II: DIY Sweetheart Bodice

Turned out pretty well!

I'm so pleased with myself!

^.^

I will need to adjust the darts tho to make the bodice better fitting.

Inspiration from ASOS.

Wedding Evening Gown Part I - Sweetheart Bodice Pattern

Based on the very helpful tutorial from this website, I modified the bodice drawn by my sewing teacher.

I hope my earnest attempt works in first try!

Pinafore Dress

Hmm... I think the dress turned out to look better on the mannequin than on me.

This is the dress I spent 5 (2-hour) sessions constructing. My sewing teacher drew this pattern for me. I haven't decided if I like it or not. Maybe it's too young for me? I don't know.

=)

Anyway i am slightly disappointed at how ill-fitting the bodice is on me. I thought it was based on my measurement. I was hoping I could use the bodice pattern to create my wedding evening gown. Now I have 2nd thoughts, seriously.

Cherry Shift Dress

I bought this at a sale at Spotlight and I simply love the prints! $8/m. It's incredibly cheap because it's satin and of course, because I bought it from Spotlight.

The pattern for the bodice was drawn by my sewing teacher and the skirt was based on the pattern I got from an online source (http://www.sharon-sews.blogspot.sg/2012/06/my-first-skirt-pattern.html) It is by far the best skirt pattern I ripped off the internet!

This is my favourite self-made dress. The construction was almost perfect except for the zipper. I have yet to learn how to attach the zipper seamlessly!

For a 3-month old novice, I am rather proud of myself. =)

I need to do something about my hair. The colour is running! Eeks!

Simple A Line Skirt

Following the pattern from this blog http://blvddesigns.wallypop.net/?p=26, I made myself a simple A-line skirt with the green polka dot fabric I had.

I love it! It's very easy to make. I made one in under an hour. And it's very flattering too!

Definitely suitable for beginners to attempt this!

Sewing my own clothes just gives me so much satisfaction. I hope my construction skills will improve by leaps and bounds soon!

My photos look orange because my light is orange in colour. Haha... I should change it to white light some day but orange lights are so much more romantic!!

Peplums

Are peplums the next in-thing after Peter Pan collars?

If they are, I want my next classroom project to be a peplum dress!

And according to Marie Claire, yes they are for Spring/Summer 2012!! Am I too late??

Back!

Yes yes! I have been sewing!

A dress that has taken me about 3 lessons to complete because I am putting in so much effort to ensure it is completely flawless!

If I had to pay to learn, I might as well make sure I learn it well! =)

Gosh, my right eye is slightly blurry this morning. =( Poor lighting, I guess.

If only...

I wish my sewing is alot more professional than it is now.

I shall not be impatient!

=(
